Our Story
Possum Place was founded in 2012 by Owner and Director Lisa Martin, who believes in facilitating a safe, secure and nurturing environment in which children can have rich and rewarding experiences where they can grow, learn and make connections between what they are learning both in indoor and outdoor environments, at home and in the local community.
Our Approach
We are guided by the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Framework. Each room has an independent program, and evolves with each individual child’s interests and development stage. Activities are both planned and spontaneous throughout the day to ensure all children’s interests and abilities are being met and encouraged.
We value play-based learning, allowing children to be children for longer.Possum Place creates engaging experiences to support and encourage children to reach their full potential.
Our alfresco eating area is a clean, secure space for eating morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea. Our long hours children are invited to bring breakfast and a late afternoon snack if they are here before 8am or after 5pm.
Children 0-2 years sleep in a cot or on a mat following their usual routine or when they are showing signs of tiredness. 2-3 year old children have a sleep after lunch on a rest mat.
3-5 year old children are offered a sleep after lunch on a rest mat, however, if they choose not to have one then quiet activities are offered e.g. meditation, yoga, visual story, etc.
We encourage and support families to be active participants within Possum Place and their child’s education through open communication with educators.We communicate daily goings on through a number of methods to ensure families feel connected and aware of their child’s experiences.
Our educators respect each individual child’s autonomy and voice, and encourage the children to become more active in sustainable practices.
